S.O.Solidarietà inbetween 2020 and 2021!

Covid: we returned from Africa on February 28th just in time for lockdown. We were very worried about them, but we didn't know what was coming. The news from Owerri given to us by the sisters, volunteers, and colleagues continued to be reassuring regarding the pandemic, but the closure of the markets led to hunger. The cooperative's products proved indispensable.

As we heard their stories with trepidation, ours continued to deteriorate. Since the middle of March we have decided to give our help where it is most needed in the city of Salerno. We collaborated with the Department of Social Affairs of the Municipality of Salerno in the care of 25 homeless people hospitalised at the Pala Tulimieri, a sports facility, in Salerno. We ensured medical visits and medicines, breakfast, recreational and sports moments, twice a week. Together with the volunteers of the Sant'Egidio Association, we distributed blankets and clothes to the Maghreb workers of the Piana del Sele. We donated through the Association "Il mondo a colori" of Eboli, material for children in the territory of the same municipality.

Near the Christmas holidays we went to Quaglietta, a small town in the province of Salerno, without even a priest, bringing gifts to 3 needy families, gifts given by our volunteers. Despite the very difficult moment for everyone, with the ideas and tailoring work of our volunteers we have won the hearts of our supporters who even at Christmas have allowed us to support the small projects in place. For the success obtained, a special thanks goes to Don Luigi Piccolo, priest of Oliveto Citra.

PROJECTS ITALY AND NIGERIA 2020 – 2021

SAD NIGERIA E KENYA. A special thanks goes to the 57 supporters of Nigerian children and the same 14 supporters of Kenyan children. We have worked hard to keep parents updated to inform them of the needs that these children have had and the problems they have faced. Understanding the situation and taking responsibility for their role, they all responded with immense generosity.

ATTA. During 2020 we managed to renovate and build the training school. The project funded by the CEI () includes a tailor's shop, a carpentry shop, a hairdresser and a computer laboratory.

Since January 2021 we have been furnishing the spaces in order to get the school ready. There are free training courses for the teaching of trades. The computer lab, on the other hand, will be involved in Jambo's courses. The Jambo is the university entrance exam. Through this operation we will be able to earn and reinvest in future activities to be organised

SPORT. For 5 years now, S.o.Solidarietà has been sponsoring the sports project in Ngugo, Nigeria. For 3 afternoons a week at the Happy Home multipurpose centre, Nigerian volunteers, previously trained by Italian volunteers, entertain 300 to 500 children by following them in various sports disciplines. The most practised sports, for which we have built sports fields in the last 5 years are: basketball, handball, football, high jump and long jump, rugby.

RURAL COMMUNITY AGRO ENTERPRAISE The cooperative born with the project is really functional. The growing of vegetables and pineapple and papaya continues at full sail. The breeding of chickens, rabbits and snails with the production of the fields was the salvation for many during lockdown ensuring food.

LEPERS. The project in Abia State in favour of a village of lepers for the construction of a well and related sanitation facilities, that has been blocked by Covid will be resubmitted to various foundations for fundraising

BLSD. Flep club and all the participants in the training that ended in March 2020, supported by the Waldensian Table with the funds of the 8×1000 are keeping their commitment. Using the ambulance and the equipment left at our headquarters in Ngugo, they provide continuous training and help to those in need (photo)

Our local employees keep their promises and by concentrating their efforts, they keep BLS training alive, giving continuity to the project and benefits to those who need it.

SLOW THE PLASTIC. With a small financial aid of 300 euros to supplement their resources obtained from the sale of grown vegetables, the volunteers of Flep Club sponsored by the Department of the Environment have started the second awareness campaign in schools against the use of plastics.

Flep Club is starting the second campaign in schools, to raise awareness among the new generations to disincentivise the use of using plastic. The Department of the Environment sponsors the initiative.

GROWING TOGETHER. EDeveloped with the Department of Education of the University of Salerno and with professors without borders of Trento, it is awaiting the approval of the "donors".

We hope that in 2021 the new project "Growing Together" will be able to take off. The training of teachers in Nigeria is essential so that the school environment can be a place of stimulis for the child, but also associative and psychologically of positive growth.

TRAIN MINDS. Covid raged throughout 2020 and unfortunately in the summer we felt freer and helped it to return. Students of all ages were ready to joyfully return to school in September, but unfortunately it was not possible.

In spite of everything, almost all the teachers have done their utmost to give them educational continuity but also proximity.

S.o.Solidarietà, not having the opportunity to be physically with them so that they would not feel alone, has devised meetings and so each school in the working group has had its own meetings.

In the first half of June 2020, experts in the IT world met virtually with students, informing them about the need to use all technological tools judiciously and above all with the same judgment, take care of their elimination because they are highly polluting.

In November, the "meetings with the champion" began.”.

The Istituto alberghiero Virtuoso of Salerno had an online meeting with international Chef Mario IaccarinoThe meeting was described as exciting by both the students and the teachers.

The Comprehensive Institute Vicinanza hosted the young athletes Emanuele Di Marino and Arjola Dedaj, respectively silver medalists and gold medalists in the race to the last Para Olympics.

The 90 kids present did not want to end the meeting at all.

The Severi high school has had its heroes in the figures of the athletes Gianmarco Di Cerbo, Christian Atte, Cartier Salsedo, Emanuele Nacca, Edoardo Sugamele, Italian champions in the various gymnastic specialties of the A.S.D. Gymnastics School Salerno, models to whom they will certainly refer.

In the second half of January 2021, the Torquato Tasso classical high school will meet first viola of La Scala, Danilo Rossi, awarded during 2020 as one of the 10 best musicians in the world.
