Journey log from Stefano Riviello
S.O.Solidarietà Volounteer
I arrived at 12:00 on January 16th, I remember I was perspiring and very tired, but my first thought was to stop off at the Hope House "the orphanage of Ngugo".
I don't have a specific task in the Hope House, I only know that when I open that big iron door, the party begins for the many children in the orphanage.
At Happy Home, on the other hand, this year I was lucky enough to collaborate with friends from the Flep Club, (a Nigerian NGO that collaborates with us in the area) for the project of spreading sport "as a universal language".
It was really nice to be able to help the children in the practice of the various sports disciplines that will allow them to acquire a wealth of motor, cognitive and social experiences that will be valuable throughout their lives.
Like every year, I dedicated part of my time to Happy Home with new workshops and new teaching methods and organising a big event dedicated to colours. I was proud to meet one of our partners in Nigeria, Austin (President of Flep Club) "a great man". Together with him we have undertaken a series of very very important projects for S.O.Solidarietà, such as the "Campaign" to raise awareness in schools, with the aim of reducing pollution on the African continent by fighting enemy number one: the plastic bag.
Still together with Austin we went to Mbaise to follow the work of a well from S.O.Solidarietà, built there.
I think that day in Mbaise was one of the best of my life: seeing those faces satisfied with the water spilling was a source of pride for me.
Hearing the words "Thank you S.O.Solidarietà, thank you Italy" is something I will never forget.
